Russian Billionaire Orders Airbus A380 As Private Jet
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Chelsea FC owner is believed to be the world’s first private buyer of the largest luxury jet - Airbus A380.
A source close to Airbus said, “the price tag is around the $300 million, but obviously it is being refitted and customised to his own personal specifications.”

Interior designers have already proposed customisations to the A380 which includes three bedrooms, a lounge and dining area, a sauna and exercise bikes.

The 40 year-old single billionaire is already UK’s richest man. According to the Russian Finance magazine, as of January 2007, his fortune was $21.0 billion.
He has already spent more than $300 million on private yachts, and real estate across the globe.

According to Le Figaro newspaper, Abramovich was the mystery buyer behind an order for an A380 VIP, which was revealed by Airbus at the Paris Air Show in June this year.
However Abramovich is not likely to be the only private buyer of the A380. Sources at the air show suggest that at least two other private buyers from the Middle East are in final stages of talks with Airbus.

The doubledecker A380 is the world’s biggest airliner. It is capable of carrying 840 passengers, measures 73 metres in length (239-feet) and towers over its biggest rival, the Boeing 747.

I wonder if men with big planes mean the same as men who need to buy big cars lol. He must have something to prove. I expect football fans will be happy when they see what he’s spending their over priced tickets on.
Actually, this story is not true. Le Figaro claimed that this plane was for Roman Abramovich. They got it only partially right: it was paid by a russian billionaire, but not Abramovich.
The actual person who bought A380 was another Russian - Victor Shvetsky (sp?) and it was to be delivered for use by Médecins Sans Frontières. While the actual purchase figure is never published, it is rumored to be in hundreds of millions of dollars.
As later Le Figaro explained it in their follow up, the whole reason why this particular deal stood out and was brought to their reporter’s attention was because the plane was rather unique. It was to be outfitted as a hospital with the purpose of being used as an instant on-demand hospital facility with five fully equipped operating rooms, in-house (in-plane?) lab, an MRI/imaging facility and capacity to house over 100 beds.
Instead of researching the story to the very end, publications worldwide just jumped on the fact that an individual has purchased such a big plane, and then went on to talk about extravagance and wasteful spending.
Thank You for the comment, blopor!
Good blessing, that is what money is for.
